Gtech Sets New Slot Machines at Lincoln Park
The lottery equipment maker Gtech Holdings Corp. has introduced 415 new
machines at Lincoln Park in the past month, a move that could increase
state revenues and enhance the company’s position in the casino market.
Tests show the new machines bring in more money on average than
traditional slot machines—meaning potentially more revenue to the state,
which takes a percentage of slot machine revenues. While typical slot
machines in Rhode Island take in about $300 a day, a test last month
showed a new machine, called Pompeii, took in $1,040 a day, according to
data provided by Gtech.
The machines have more lights, more sounds, and graphics that are
video-game quality.
“It’s a new machine. It’s like driving a new car. People want to
participate,” said Gerald Aubin, who oversees the Rhode Island Lottery.
The machines are
being introduced as slot revenues have slowed. The take was $5.7
million less than state projections for the first four months of the
year. Rhode Island also hopes the new games will give it an edge if
Massachusetts adds slots at its four tracks.
