Crime Evidently on the Rise in Gaming
"The District," "Cold Case," "Law & Order," "CSI," "Navy NCIS," "The
D.A." — am I hallucinating, or is every show on TV about crime and
punishment?
At least there's a bit more variety in the games realm, although the
crime field is getting more crowded with the release of "CSI: Crime
Scene Investigation: Dark Motives."
The game lays out five cases for investigation, testing players'
attention to detail and aptitude for forensics work. The scenarios
include a stolen Komodo dragon, a stunt gone awry and a stage actress
killed during rehearsal.
Teaming up with a character from the show, players are sent to the
crime scene to search for clues and find witnesses.
It's imperative to go over every piece of evidence with a
fine-toothed comb (fine-toothed comb not included). You'll use the tools
of the investigator's trade, including fingerprint-lifting film,
tweezers, mold-making putty and UV light.
Collected evidence must be submitted to the lab for evaluation before
progress can be made. DNA, fingerprints, shoe prints, tire treads and
other latent marks can be analyzed and searched in the CSI database for
matches.
Fitting all the pieces together to solve a case can be difficult
because Jim Brass, the homicide detective, won't approve questioning or
a search warrant unless every bit of evidence is scrutinized first.
